try a curling iron (not on high or it will burn your hair)...also layers bring out locks and put some controling spray in it and hair milk spray to give you shine and boost

start with the double strand twists and get them re twisted periodically.

I've had mine for ten years but the way mine were started were with tiny braids. As they grew, I used beeswax at the root and would (and still do ) twist the dreads until they were able to lock. After my hair had some length, I cut the original piece of braid off and all the rest are locs.
